Welcome Back to PMP Strategies, few days ago I posted the requirements for the PMP certification. You may ask yourself ... Can I provide hours of experience in which my title or designation was not necessary "Project Manager"? Yes, for Instance if you where responsible for any of the of the Project Management Processes such as Initiation, Planning, Execution , Monitor & Controlling or Closing a project your experience will be recognized by the PMI . Also consider that your participation may include experience outside of the corporate environment such as volunteer projects. If you are interested in volunteer professional activities consider Joining your PMI local chapter. Realize that you can have the chance of gaining experience in a relatively safe (minimal risk) environment. Additionally you can add a Key element on your professional career and that is "Networking". Networking with Project Management professionals will be my next subject on this blog....

On today's competitive markets individuals are expected to have more than technical skills. Leadership is one of them. Today I attended a meeting with the "Leadership Class" held at the Sofitel Hotel in Miami. Besides of spending time with the current president of the PMI South Florida Local chapter "Teresa Colon" and President-Elect "Patricia Garofano " I also meet actual students from the " Leadership Class". It was very interesting the fact that these students came from different regions such as Uruguay, Canada, Cincinnati (Ohio) Pittsburgh and many other places. Talking to the students I realized that I can develop those skills as well and apply them to daily activities. The program started in September of 2005 as part of the PMI leadership development activivities. You can read more about this initiative and find out how to be part of it. The Project Management Professional Handbook (PMP Handbook) states requirements as follow: with High School or Associate Degree Project Management Experience 7500 hours------------------ with a Bachelor's Degree Project Management Experience 4500 hours --------------------- Project management Education 35 Contact Hours for both I know what you are thinking. If I'm taking steps to be a project manager how can I meet the hours of project management experience? Well, the answer is you can. I will post the answer in a few days.
